As an important basic part of mechanical equipment, gears are widely used in various industries. With the development of production, the performance requirements of gears are getting higher and higher. Heat treatment is one of the common processes of gears. Common heat treatment processes include carburizing and quenching, Quenching, tempering, tempering, etc. Among them, the gears after carburizing and quenching and quenching + tempering have high hardness and are difficult to process. The following problems often occur in the process of traditional tool processing:


(1) After heat treatment, the hardness of the gear is between HRC58-62, and the traditional tool will wear quickly when it goes up, which will affect the production efficiency;

(2) Some gears have intermittent cutting conditions (the inner hole has a keyway or the end face has a group of holes), the tool is easy to break during the tool processing, and the production cost remains high.

 (3) After heat treatment, the large gear not only has high hardness, but also has a large amount of deformation, which has high requirements for the wear resistance and impact toughness of the tool.

For gears with a hardness between HRC58-62 after heat treatment, cutting tools must meet the following performance requirements:

①The tool has high hardness, good wear resistance and high temperature resistance;

② Have sufficient bending strength and impact toughness;

③Good processing stability and oxidation resistance;

In this regard, Halnn Superhard has developed 3 types of CBN tools, namely BN-H10, BN-H21 and BN-S20.

Among them, the BN-H10 grade belongs to the composite CBN tool, which is mainly used in continuous cutting conditions, with a balance of wear resistance and fracture resistance, and is suitable for high-speed finishing. At high speed, the tool life is 5-6 times that of ceramic tools.

The BN-H21 grade is a compound CBN tool with excellent tip strength and strong shock resistance. It is mainly used in strong intermittent cutting conditions (gears with group holes on the end face or keyways in the inner hole, etc.).

The BN-S20 grade belongs to the overall polycrystalline CBN tool, which can not only remove the gear deformation with a large margin, but also cut the gear tooth surface strongly and intermittently. It has high hardness, excellent thermal shock resistance and wear resistance, and its tool life is N times that of ceramic knives.
