For high-speed steel new roll slotting: because of the large groove machining allowance and large contact area, it will lead to short tool life and low efficiency, so the integral polycrystalline CBN insert can be directly used to remove the machining allowance and improve the machining efficiency. It is recommended to use BN-S300 material or BN-S20 material, and choose RCMX-V series or RCMX-Y series integral CBN inserts.

For the slotting of the high speed steel repair roll: due to the work hardening phenomenon of the high speed steel roll, especially the processing of the pass of the finished ribbed steel bar is more difficult, for the round steel finished roll, the polycrystalline CBN insert BN-S300 material can be used, and if there are cracks or blocks in the groove, the BN-S20 material will be selected. for the ribbed steel repair roll, it belongs to intermittent cutting because of the existence of crescent groove transverse ribs. It can be processed with integral polycrystalline CBN insert made of BN-K1 material without knife collapse.

Introduction of cutting parameters of High Speed Steel Roll slotting

The selection of cutting parameters is mainly based on the machining efficiency and the actual situation of breaking. The roll pass of high-speed steel has a great influence on the quality of finished products, productivity of rolling mill, equipment safety, production cost and so on. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful in selecting cutting parameters.

Among them, the spindle speed is an important parameter that affects the machining surface quality, and the higher the speed, the easier it is to achieve better surface quality of the machined workpiece.

Rough machining process: the cutting speed (Vc) is controlled between 50-150m/min, the feed rate (Fr) is controlled between 0.1-0.5mm/r, and the cutting depth (ap) is between 1-10mm.

Finishing process: it mainly ensures its dimensional accuracy and surface finish, so the cutting speed (Vc) is controlled between 90-250m/min, the feed rate (Fr) is controlled between 0.005-0.35mm/r, and the cutting depth (ap) ≤ 1mm.
